Websites
Self-taught HTML beginning around 1996, I have been interested in Web design, layout design and the visual appeal of the Internet ever since. My first personal site was entirely hand-coded, a project that today I would consider huge and time-consuming (nested tables anyone?). It was a family tree or genealogy site, another hobby of mine. That a family member might come across my site was an exciting possibility. Indeed, a few have emailed me from time to time because of the online find. One such person came across my site and emailed me to say she was "surprised to see a photo of my great, great grandfather" on my site. Wow!
My love for technology eventually landed me jobs in the field. This is where most of my Website work exists. Below are examples of some of my work. Access to many of these sites requires a password.
The Mukwonago Athletic Club
My most recent project and my first blog site. It seemed a good way for these folks to help educate and inform their club members as well as give them an updated, more polished web presence.
The Kettle Moraine Studio Tour
Another recent project was for this local annual artist studio tour. With not much time to pull it off, I went with a basic design that has a poster look and feel about it. I once again played around with a few technologies. I implemented a Google map, an image slide show and a scroller. A bit more than I would otherwise include on any given site, but the owners like it and it is easy to navigate and to find what you are looking for.
XN-Trix
Here is a site that utilizes the lightbox effect, some special css techniques and the scalable Inman Flash Replacement (sIFR).
The Congregation of the Great Spirit
Here is a site redesign that I have currently working on.. Their former website is here.
Timberlee Golf Outing
An online golf outing registration site I created while working for BSG. I built the site to look similar, though not identical to the original site, thus I created a new logo but kept most of the original style in tact to give a somewhat seamless feel. Graphics, some Flash animation and Google maps were implemented on this site.
Bradley HrExpress
A client Extranet site I created for BSG. I came across this template online and after testing it at home decided it would be a good template to use for our HRExpress clients at BSG. The template is cross-platform friendly, has a clean look and feel, is minimalist in design and the .png file is easy to customize for new clients. Knowing that one of our goals at BSG is to streamline the build process for our HRExpress sites, I presented this design to my team leader and my CIO and it then became the new template that was used for all new HRExpress sites. My work on this site included transforming the code from this template into a structure that we could use with our HRExpress sites. I augmented existing code such as the "contacts" and the "benefits chart" into the new template. I also created the banner design and completed proper navigation throughout the site.
BSG Intranet
I was given the opportunity at BSG to come up with the new design and layout for the BSG Intranet. We wanted something that would shrink and expand nicely with three columns. I found something I liked on the Internet and went to work in modifying it to suit our needs. I created the CSS styles which include 4 different color schemes. I found and implemented code that randomly shows a different quote each time the browser is refreshed, eliminating the need to make weekly updates. I also created the floating toolbar and the scrolling text to display the "special occasions".
I worked closely with our senior application developer to make sure that the design would translate well into the DOT NET framework that was planned. The site will be undergoing a transformation for some time to come as most of the remaining content is still in the "old" design.
Froedtert Hospital HRExpress
Froedtert hospital is an example of a "COBRA Administration System" site. I created the look, feel and navigation of this site by using some existing code and pages and augmenting them into a new template. The entire site is actually a module that can be dropped into any existing client site. We simply copy a few folders into a client site and then modify a "constants" page. This page then passes variables to the rest of the site to control the logo url, company codes, and other necessary information specific to that company. Several other sites have been implemented with this module including Grande Cheese Co, Marcus, MMC, Stellent, Providence and Brady Corp.
HCTrends.com
HCTrends is the companion site to "The Annual Report On Health Care". My involvement in this project was the initial design, graphics, layout and navigation. I implemented menus from dhtmlcentral.com and there was a lot of input from others with regard to the color scheme and design.
When the project expanded into what it is now, it was necessary to build in security and restrict access. Again, I worked with our lead programmer/application developer to get all the pages converted into the new framework that he built based on my design. The result is a somewhat different design than the original.
I have been asked to create a new logo for HCTrends.com. A draft of this image may be found under banners on this site.
OSI
OSI has recently been updated and the new design layout is based on the .Net template that I created.
Benefits charts and location maps are areas of this site that require regular updates. I have created newer versions of the location map and the benefits charts, utilizing layers in Fireworks. This will make it easier to update location maps and benefits charts in the future.
Rotroff Jeanson
This is the very first site I created back in 1998. It was a class project.
